Day 1 — Stage I Screening: OIR Test & PPDT
OIR (Officer Intelligence Rating) Test
Two booklets — Verbal and Non-Verbal — approximately 40–50 questions each, 17 minutes per booklet. OIR ratings range from 1 (highest) to 5 (lowest).
- Verbal: Analogies, Number Series, Coding-Decoding, Syllogisms
- Non-Verbal: Figure Series, Pattern Matching, Mirror Images, Paper Folding
PPDT (Picture Perception & Discussion Test)
A hazy picture shown for 30 seconds → 4 minutes to write a story → 15-minute group discussion to form a common story. Assessors look for: clarity of thought, positive story, how well you influence the group without aggression.
Day 2 — Psychology Tests

Day 3 — GTO Tasks Day 1

- Group Planning Exercise (GPE): Terrain model with multiple problems. Individual plan → group discussion → common solution.
- Progressive Group Task (PGT): Group of 8–10 crosses 4 obstacles using plank/rope/baulk. Leadership and cooperation assessed.
- Half Group Task (HGT): Same as PGT with half the group — each candidate gets more visibility.
Day 4 — GTO Tasks Day 2 + Personal Interview
- Individual Obstacles (IO): 10 obstacles in 3 minutes individually. Max 55 points. Tests guts, fitness, confidence.
- Command Task: You are commander; given 2–3 subordinates to complete one obstacle. Tests natural leadership.
- Final Group Task (FGT): Full group together, one obstacle. GTO finalises observations.
- Personal Interview (PI): 1-on-1 with IO, 20–60 minutes. Covers PIQ, academics, family, current affairs, motivation to join forces.
Day 5 — Conference
Chaired by SSB President. All three assessors share independent assessments. Each candidate is called briefly. Board announces Recommended (R) or Not Recommended (NR). Recommended candidates proceed to Medical Examination.
