New Zealand Nursing Registration for Indian Nurses — NCNZ Process 2025
New Zealand is an increasingly popular destination for Indian nurses, offering world-class healthcare facilities, a high quality of life and a welcoming immigration policy. The Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) oversees nursing registration for internationally qualified nurses.
NCNZ Registration Requirements for Indian Nurses
- Nursing degree equivalent to a New Zealand Bachelor of Nursing
- English language proficiency: OET Grade B or IELTS 7.0 in all components
- Pass either the NCNZ Competence Assessment Programme (CAP) or the CBT/OSCE pathway
- Good standing with your Indian State Nursing Council
The Two Registration Pathways
Pathway 1: CBT + OSCE
Internationally qualified nurses may be directed to complete the NCNZ’s competency assessments — a Computer-Based Test followed by an OSCE. The CBT tests nursing knowledge and the OSCE assesses clinical skills in simulation scenarios.
NCA Academy offers NZ CBT coaching for Indian nurses and NZ nursing OSCE coaching.
Pathway 2: Competence Assessment Programme (CAP)
Some nurses are directed to the CAP — a supervised clinical programme completed in a New Zealand healthcare setting. Your NCNZ assessment after reviewing your qualifications will determine which pathway you take.
Step-by-Step NCNZ Application Process
- Submit your application and documents to NCNZ
- NCNZ assesses your qualifications and determines your registration pathway
- Complete English language testing (OET preferred)
- If directed: pass CBT and/or OSCE assessment
- Receive NCNZ registration and begin nursing in New Zealand
New Zealand Nursing Salary for Indian Nurses
Registered Nurses in New Zealand earn NZD $60,000–$85,000 per year. With the cost of living and quality of life factored in, New Zealand represents excellent value for Indian nursing professionals.
Skilled Migrant Visa for Nurses
Registered Nurses are on New Zealand’s Green List (Straight to Residence pathway), meaning you can apply directly for residence after securing a nursing job offer — without needing to work temporarily first. This makes New Zealand uniquely attractive for long-term settlement.
Is New Zealand registration easier than UK or Australia for Indian nurses?
The NCNZ process has fewer examination steps than UK NMC registration. However, NCNZ assesses each application individually and may direct candidates to different pathways. Starting OET preparation early is critical for all pathways.
