Quick answer: Yes — you can sit the NCLEX in India. India is one of the countries where NCSBN delivers the exam through Pearson VUE professional test centres, with appointments in the major metros including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai. Testing in India adds a US$150 international scheduling fee, and at an international centre the only acceptable ID is a passport.
Indian nurses often assume the NCLEX has to be taken in the United States. It does not. NCSBN lists India among its international testing countries, alongside Australia, Brazil, France, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Türkiye and the United Kingdom. You can register from India, test in India, and never board a flight until you have a licence in hand.

Where can you take the NCLEX in India?
The NCLEX is delivered from Pearson VUE professional test centres. In India these sit in the major metros:

Is there an NCLEX centre in Kerala, Punjab or Chandigarh?
This is the question we are asked most, and the honest answer is no — NCLEX delivery in India is concentrated in the metros listed above. Kerala candidates, who make up a large share of Indian NCLEX takers, generally test at Bengaluru, Chennai or Hyderabad. Candidates from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh test at Delhi NCR, which is a comfortable same-day trip from Chandigarh by road or rail.
That geography is part of why so many North Indian nurses prepare at our NCLEX coaching in Chandigarh centre and then travel to Delhi for the exam itself.
How do you book an NCLEX test centre in India?
- Apply to a US state board of nursing for licensure by examination, and complete whatever credentials evaluation that board requires.
- Register with Pearson VUE and pay the US$200 registration fee.
- Wait for your Authorization to Test (ATT). You cannot schedule without it, and it carries a validity window set by your board.
- Schedule your appointment online through the Pearson VUE candidate portal, or by phone with Pearson Candidate Services. This is when the US$150 international scheduling fee is charged.
- Choose your Indian centre and date within the ATT validity window.
If your registration confirmation has not arrived within two days of submitting, contact Pearson Candidate Services rather than registering again. A duplicate registration is not refunded, and you cannot hold two active registrations for the same exam.
Can you change or cancel an NCLEX appointment in India?
Yes, but not the way you would expect, and this catches people out. Changes to international appointments can only be made by telephoning Pearson Candidate Services — you cannot reschedule an international NCLEX appointment through the website the way domestic candidates can.
Two rules apply on top of that:
- You must reschedule or cancel more than 24 business hours before your appointment, or you forfeit the fee.
- The international scheduling fee is never refunded, for any reason.

What ID do you need at an NCLEX centre in India?
This is the single most expensive mistake an Indian candidate can make. At a domestic (US) test centre, several IDs are accepted — driving licence, state ID card, military ID. At an international test centre, including every centre in India, NCSBN accepts only a passport book or passport card.
An Aadhaar card, PAN card, Indian driving licence or voter ID will not get you into the exam room.
Your ID must also be:
- Physical, not digital — a DigiLocker or mParivahan copy is not accepted.
- Not expired.
- Printed in Roman characters, with a recent photograph and a signature.
- An exact name match. The first and last names on your passport must match exactly the names you registered with Pearson VUE.
If you turn up without acceptable ID you are turned away, you must re-register and pay the exam fee again, and your US$150 international scheduling fee is forfeited too. That is roughly ₹33,000 lost over a document.
What if your passport name does not match your registration?
Indian candidates hit this constantly — a married name on the passport, an initial expanded or contracted, a surname order swapped between documents.
If the name you registered with differs from the name on your passport, you must carry the original marriage licence, divorce decree or court-ordered name change document to the test centre. Photocopies are not accepted, and the document must show the name change in Roman characters.
Legal name, address and email changes cannot be made at the test centre. They have to go through your nursing regulatory body before exam day, so check your registration against your passport the day you register, not the week you test.
What does it cost to test in India rather than the US?

The US$150 premium is real, but so is the alternative: a US visa, international airfare and accommodation for a five-hour exam. For nearly every Indian candidate, testing at home is both cheaper and less risky. Note that from 1 February 2027 the registration fee rises to US$350, taking the Indian total to US$500.
How long is the exam, and what happens on the day?
You are allotted five hours, and that limit includes every break you take. The exam is adaptive: you will answer somewhere between 85 and 150 items depending on how the computer’s estimate of your ability settles. A short exam is not a bad sign and a long one is not a failure — length says nothing about your result.

Can I use my Aadhaar card as ID for the NCLEX?
No. At an international test centre, including all centres in India, the only acceptable identification is a passport book or passport card. Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID and Indian driving licences are not accepted.
Can I reschedule my NCLEX date in India online?

Do I need a US visa to take the NCLEX?
