NCSBN classifies every test centre as either domestic or international. For candidates seeking US licensure, “domestic” means the United States and its territories; everything else, India included, is an international test centre. Scheduling at an international centre triggers a US$150 international scheduling fee plus any local value added tax. It is charged once per registration, and it is never refunded — not if you cancel, not if you reschedule, not if you fail to appear.
The alternative is to travel to a US test centre and pay only the US$200 registration fee. Is the NCLEX registration fee going up in 2027?
Yes. NCSBN has announced that effective 1 February 2027, the NCLEX registration fee rises from US$200 to US$350 in the United States and Australia. The US$150 international scheduling fee is unchanged.

What does the TruMerit (CGFNS) credentials evaluation cost?
Most US state boards will not issue an Authorization to Test to an internationally educated nurse until an approved agency has evaluated their nursing education. That agency is TruMerit — the organisation formerly known as CGFNS International. The report most boards ask for is the Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) Professional Report, currently US$420 (about ₹39,500).
The requirement is state-specific, not universal. A few boards accept a different report, and a few require an English language proficiency report attached to it. Do you need VisaScreen, and what does it cost?
VisaScreen is a separate TruMerit certification, currently US$540 (about ₹50,800). It is not part of the licensure process — it is an immigration requirement. Indian nurses applying for an occupational visa to work in the United States need it; nurses who only want to hold a US licence do not.

What does your state board of nursing charge?
Each of the fifty state boards sets its own licence-by-examination fee, and the range is wide. NCSBN does not publish a single figure because there isn’t one. Budget for it as a separate line and confirm the exact amount with the board you are applying to before you register — the board also has to declare you eligible before Pearson VUE will issue your Authorization to Test.

Which NCLEX costs are refundable?
Almost none. NCSBN’s published refund policy is unusually strict, and it is worth reading before you pay:
- There is no refund of registration fees for any reason.
- There is no refund of the international scheduling fee for any reason.
- Failing to reschedule or cancel outside 24 business hours forfeits the fee.
- Failing to appear for your appointment forfeits the fee.
- Duplicate registrations are not refunded — you cannot hold two active registrations for the same exam.
