Indian Nurse in Dubai — DHA, Salary, Visa & How to Get Started

Indian Nurse in Dubai — DHA, Salary, Visa & How to Get Started

Dubai is consistently one of the most popular international destinations for Indian nurses. Tax-free salaries, modern hospitals, a large Indian community and proximity to home make it an attractive choice. Here’s everything you need to know about working as a nurse in Dubai.

Why Indian Nurses Choose Dubai

  • Tax-free salary: AED 4,000–10,000/month (approximately ₹90,000–₹2,25,000)
  • Free accommodation and transport often included
  • Modern, well-equipped hospitals and medical facilities
  • Large Indian expatriate community
  • 2–3 hour flight from India — easy to visit family
  • Dubai Health Authority licensing exam (DHA) is manageable for Indian nurses

Requirements to Work as a Nurse in Dubai

  • BSc Nursing or GNM from a recognised institution
  • Valid Indian State Nursing Council registration
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience (for most employers)
  • Pass the DHA nursing exam
  • Dataflow verification of all credentials
  • Valid employment visa sponsored by a Dubai hospital/healthcare facility

The DHA Exam Process

The DHA (Dubai Health Authority) exam is a 100-question MCQ test covering all nursing domains. It is computer-based, taken at Prometric centres in India or UAE, and requires approximately 65% to pass. Most Indian nurses with BSc Nursing background pass with 3–4 months of focused preparation.

DHA Exam vs MOH vs DOH — Which Do You Need?

This depends on which Emirate you’ll work in — DHA for Dubai, DOH for Abu Dhabi, MOH for all other Emirates. Most Indian nurses initially target Dubai (DHA) as it has the most hospital vacancies.

Dataflow Verification — What It Is and How Long It Takes

Dataflow is a primary source verification process that confirms the authenticity of all your credentials with issuing institutions in India. This includes your nursing degree, transcripts, nursing council registration and experience letters. It typically takes 45–90 days. Start Dataflow early — it runs parallel to your DHA exam preparation.

Dubai Nursing Visa Process

  1. Receive a job offer from a Dubai hospital (most recruit directly or via agencies)
  2. Complete Dataflow and DHA licensing
  3. Employer sponsors your Health and Residence visa
  4. Complete medical fitness examination in Dubai on arrival
  5. Receive Emirates ID and begin work

Can I apply for the DHA exam before getting a job offer?

Yes — and it’s highly recommended. Most Dubai hospitals prefer to hire nurses who already hold a DHA licence. Passing the DHA exam before job hunting significantly increases your chances of getting hired quickly.
