📌 TES-56 vs Navy 10+2 B.Tech — Key Eligibility Difference

The Army TES-56 requires 60% in PCM, compared to the Navy’s 70% PCM requirement. The Army entry is also male-only, while the Navy entry accepts both male and female candidates. Both entries use JEE Main 2026 CRL as the sole shortlisting criterion. Candidates eligible for both should apply to both — the applications are separate and one does not affect the other. Compare both entries: Indian Navy 10+2 B.Tech Entry January 2027 →

Selection Process — 4 Stages Explained

1

JEE Main 2026 CRL Shortlisting

The Indian Army shortlists candidates based on their JEE (Main) 2026 All India Common Rank List (CRL). A cut-off rank is fixed by the Army HQ — only candidates above this rank receive SSB call letters. The Army does not publish the exact cut-off in advance. Higher JEE rank = greater probability of SSB call.

2

SSB Interview (5 Days)

Conducted at Selection Centres in Allahabad, Bhopal, Bangalore, or Kapurthala. A 5-day assessment of 15 Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) — Day 1 screening, Days 2–4 psychology and group tasks, Day 5 conference. The final merit list is based solely on SSB marks — not on JEE rank. A higher JEE rank only gets you called; the SSB determines selection.

3

Medical Examination

SSB-recommended candidates undergo a detailed medical examination at designated Military Hospitals. Vision, ENT, orthopaedic, cardiovascular, neurological, and general fitness are assessed. Medically fit candidates proceed to the merit list. Medically unfit candidates may appeal at the Military Hospital Review Board.

4

All-India Merit List + Joining

The final merit list is prepared based on SSB interview marks combined with medical fitness. Police verification and character verification are conducted before joining. Selected candidates receive joining instructions for their allocated Cadets Training Wing (CTW). Course commences January 2027.

💡 Critical Insight: JEE Rank Gets You In — SSB Gets You Selected

Many TES aspirants make the mistake of thinking that a high JEE rank is the key to selection. It is not — the final merit list is based entirely on SSB marks. A candidate with JEE rank 15,000 who scores strongly at SSB will be selected over a candidate with JEE rank 3,000 who performs poorly at SSB. This makes SSB preparation the most important investment you can make after applying.

SSB Interview for Army TES-56 — Structure & What Assessors Look For

The SSB (Services Selection Board) for Army TES-56 follows the standard 5-day Army SSB format. It assesses 15 Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) — the same qualities that define effective military leadership. TES candidates are expected to demonstrate not just intelligence and personality, but also the technical awareness and problem-solving mindset expected of a future Army engineer officer.

⚡ Army SSB Structure — TES-56
Day 1 — Screening: OIR Test (Officer Intelligence Rating — verbal + non-verbal) + PPDT (Picture Perception & Discussion Test). Candidates not screened in leave on Day 1.

Days 2–4 — Assessment: Psychology tests (TAT, WAT, SRT, Self Description), GTO tasks (Group Discussion, PGT, HGT, Lecturette, Command Task, Individual Obstacles, FGT), Personal Interview with IO.

Day 5 — Conference: All three assessors (IO, GTO, Psychologist) review holistic OLQ scores. Decision: Recommended or Not Recommended. For TES-56, the final merit is based only on SSB marks — making SSB performance the single most important factor in selection.
DayTests / ActivitiesOLQs Primarily Assessed

4-Year Training: From Cadet to Commissioned Lieutenant

The TES training programme is structured across two phases — Phase 1 at a Cadets Training Wing (CTW) focusing on engineering education and basic military training, and Phase 2 at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun for final officer training before commissioning.

⚙️ Phase 1 — Year 1 to 3

At one of three CTWs: CME, Pune (Electronics/Signals) or MCTE, Mhow (Signals/IT) or MCEME, Secunderabad (Mechanical/Electronics). Engineering curriculum + basic military training.

🏫 Phase 2 — Year 4

At Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. Advanced military training, leadership modules, tactical exercises, and the final Passing Out Parade (POP) before commissioning.

🎓 Engineering Degree

On successful completion, cadets receive a B.Tech-equivalent engineering degree. The Army funds all tuition, accommodation, food, uniform, and training expenses for all 4 years.

🌟 Commissioning

Graduates are commissioned as Lieutenants in the Indian Army’s technical arms — Corps of Engineers, Corps of Signals, REME (Electrical & Mechanical Engineers), or other technical corps.

📌 Which CTW Will You Be Assigned To?

Assignment to CME Pune, MCTE Mhow, or MCEME Secunderabad is based on the technical arm allocation (Corps of Engineers, Signals, EME) determined by the Army HQ based on vacancies and performance. Candidates cannot choose their CTW at the application stage — allocation is made after selection.
