NDA 6-Month Plan Overview

The UPSC NDA exam has two papers: Mathematics (300 marks) and General Ability Test/GAT (600 marks — English + GK). The cutoff typically requires around 25–30% in Maths and 40–50% overall. With 6 months, the focus should be: Maths (months 1–3), GAT (months 1–4 in parallel), revision and mocks (months 4–6), and physical fitness throughout.

Month 1: Build the Foundation

  • Maths: NCERT Class 11 — Sets, Relations, Complex Numbers, Quadratic Equations, Permutations & Combinations, Binomial Theorem
  • English: Wren & Martin grammar — complete Parts 1 and 2 (Parts of Speech, Tenses)
  • History (GAT): NCERT Class 6–10 History — Ancient and Medieval India
  • Physical: Begin running 2–3km daily; basic bodyweight exercises
  • Daily target: 6 hours study + 45 min physical training

Month 2: Deepen Core Concepts

  • Maths: Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry (2D), Matrices and Determinants — work from NCERT, then R.S. Aggarwal NDA Maths
  • Vocabulary: 20 words daily from Word Power Made Easy (Norman Lewis) — build to 600 words by end of month
  • History: Modern Indian History — 1757 to Independence; NCERT Class 8–10
  • Geography: Start NCERT Physical Geography (Class 11)
  • Mock practice: Solve 20 previous year NDA Maths questions daily
  • Physical: Build to 5km run; add pull-ups and push-ups

Month 3: Complete Science and First Mocks

  • Maths: Statistics, Probability, Integral Calculus, Differential Equations — these are high-weight NDA topics
  • Physics: NCERT Class 11 — Mechanics, Waves, Heat and Thermodynamics
  • Chemistry: NCERT Class 11 — Basic concepts, Periodic Table, Bonds
  • Biology: NCERT Class 12 Biology — Human physiology, Cell biology basics
  • Polity: Begin Indian Constitution and Polity (Lucent’s GK or NCERT)
  • First Mock: Attempt a complete NDA mock paper (both papers, timed). Diagnose weak areas.

Month 4: Full Syllabus Revision

  • Maths revision: Go back to all chapters. Revise formulas. Solve previous year papers chapter-by-chapter.
  • GAT revision: History, Geography, Polity, Physics, Chemistry, Biology — one subject per day in rotation
  • Current affairs: Maintain a daily notebook — 5 key points per day. Focus on defence, sports, science, awards.
  • Mock tests: One complete NDA mock paper every weekend
  • English: Daily comprehension passage + 1 grammar chapter revision

Month 5: Intensive Mock Testing

  • Two full NDA mock tests per week — timed, exam conditions, no shortcuts
  • Solve all previous 10 years’ NDA question papers. Identify which topics repeat most.
  • Focus extra time on your weakest two subjects — close the gaps now, not in Month 6
  • Current affairs: Start reading PIB (Press Information Bureau) daily — especially defence, science, and awards
  • Physical: At this stage, 5–7km runs, 40 push-ups, 10 pull-ups should be achievable

Month 6: Final Sprint

  • No new topics — only revision and mock testing
  • Revise formula sheets, key dates, geography map facts, important acts and articles
  • Take 3 full mocks in the final two weeks
  • Spend 15 minutes daily reviewing your current affairs notebook
  • Rest well — maintain sleep discipline. Don’t study past midnight in the final week.
