Note for candidates who miss the cut: recommended TGC-145 candidates whose merit position falls outside their stream’s vacancies may be offered the Short Service Commission (Tech) course of October 2027, subject to eligibility and unfilled SSC(T) vacancies in that stream. In other words, a strong SSB performance in TGC-145 can still lead to a commission — read our Army SSC Tech guide for how that entry works.
Indian Army TGC 145 — Eligibility
Nationality
A citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or the listed East African countries and Vietnam with the intention of settling permanently in India (certificate of eligibility required for the last two categories, except Gorkha subjects of Nepal). Candidates with engineering degrees from foreign universities are not eligible.
Age limit
20 to 27 years on 1 July 2027 — born not earlier than 1 July 2000 and not later than 30 June 2007. Only the date of birth on the Matriculation/Secondary School certificate is accepted.
Educational qualification
BE/B.Tech, or M.Sc Computer Science, in one of the notified streams. Final-year students may apply provided they submit proof of passing the degree, with all semester marksheets, to the Directorate General of Recruiting by 1 July 2027, and produce the degree certificate within 12 weeks of the start of training at IMA (otherwise they join on an additional bond basis and risk cancellation). Candidates whose final result is declared after 1 July 2027 are not eligible. Final-year candidates appear for the SSB provisionally: their cumulative percentage up to the 6th semester/3rd year (8th semester for B.Arch, 2nd semester for M.Sc) must not be below the stream cut-off, and the final cumulative percentage must also clear it.
Marital status
Unmarried male candidates only. Marriage during training leads to discharge and recovery of training costs; a candidate who marries after applying is not inducted even if recommended.
Minimum physical standards before joining IMA

Selection Process — No Written Exam
Is there a written exam for TGC 145? No. The Army shortlists applications stream-wise on cumulative engineering percentage in a vacancy-to-call-up ratio it does not disclose, then calls shortlisted candidates for the 5-day SSB Interview at Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru or Jalandhar, followed by a medical examination. The final merit list is stream-wise, so with 2–8 vacancies per stream your SSB performance decides everything.
- Shortlisting — on the cumulative percentage up to the final semester. The portal converts marks to percentage with a simple formula; the college’s own CGPA-to-percentage conversion is treated as final, and a candidate whose converted percentage falls below the cut-off should not report for SSB even if shortlisted on the marks filled in.
- SSB centre and date selection — after shortlisting you log in and choose from the available centres and dates, first come, first served. Once chosen, the centre and date cannot be changed by the candidate.
- SSB Interview — two-stage, maximum five days. Stage 1 (OIR tests and PPDT) screens on Day 1; those who fail return the same day. Stage 2 covers psychology tests, GTO tasks, the personal interview and the conference. Call-up letters come only by registered e-mail and SMS from the selection centre.
- Medical examination — for recommended candidates. A Special Medical Board fitness from an earlier Army SSB is valid for 270 days up to the joining date (1 July 2027).
- Merit list and joining — stream-wise, limited to the vacancies. Passing the SSB alone does not guarantee selection.
TGC 145 SSB Interview Centres and Dates
SSBs for TGC-145 are held at the Army’s four selection centres — Prayagraj (Allahabad), Bhopal, Bengaluru and Jalandhar. The exact dates appear in your joinindianarmy.nic.in profile once the shortlist is published (for the previous course, TGC-144, shortlists and SSB dates came roughly six to eight weeks after the application window closed; for TGC-145 that points to December 2026 – January 2027, but only the portal is authoritative). Choose the earliest date you can prepare for and the centre you can reach comfortably; candidates appearing for this type of commission for the first time are entitled to AC-III tier rail fare.
How to Apply for TGC 145 (30 Sep – 29 Oct 2026)
- Go to joinindianarmy.nic.in and click Registration (skip if already registered). Fill in the details exactly as on your matriculation certificate and degree.
- Log in, open Officers Selection → Eligibility, and click Apply against Technical Graduate Course.
- Complete the personal, communication, education and previous-SSB details. Select the engineering stream exactly as written on your degree/marksheet — a nomenclature mismatch cancels the application.
- Save, then check every field before Submit Now; keep the roll number and a printout of the application.
- The window closes at 1500 hrs on 29 October 2026. Do not wait for the last day — the portal slows under load.
Documents to keep ready
- Matriculation/Class 10 certificate (proof of date of birth — no other document is accepted)
- Original degree or provisional degree and all semester/year marksheets — these must be carried to the SSB
- Final-year candidates: bonafide certificate and marksheets up to the latest semester
- An affidavit if your name or parents’ names differ anywhere across your documents
- Certificate of eligibility (Nepal/PIO categories where applicable), recent passport photographs, a valid photo ID
Training, Commission and Pay
Selected candidates train for about 12 months at IMA Dehradun, drawing a stipend of ₹56,100 per month (the starting pay of Level 10). On commissioning they are granted a Permanent Commission as Lieutenant and pay is fixed in Level 10 (₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500), plus Military Service Pay of ₹15,500 per month, dearness allowance, technical allowance and field/high-altitude allowances as applicable. Captain follows at Level 10B (₹61,300 – ₹1,93,900), Major at Level 11 (₹69,400 – ₹2,07,200), Lieutenant Colonel at Level 12A, Colonel at Level 13, and so on. Training is at government expense; a cadet withdrawn for reasons within his control is liable to refund the cost of training (about ₹20,482 per week, tentative). Final allocation of Arms/Services is made before passing out, at the Army’s discretion.
The SSB Is Everything — How to Prepare for TGC 145
With no written exam and 2–8 seats per stream, every TGC-145 candidate who is shortlisted stands on the same footing: a 5-day board that assesses officer-like qualities, not engineering knowledge. The Interviewing Officer will read your PIQ form and marksheets closely — expect questions on your final-year project, why you prefer the Army over a core-sector job, which Corps your stream maps to, and any dip in a semester. The psychology tests (TAT, WAT, SRT, Self-Description) and GTO tasks are the same as for NDA and CDS candidates, but engineers are judged against a batch that is older and more articulate.
Applying now and shortlisted in December? That leaves 4–8 weeks before your SSB date — enough for a structured course, not for guesswork. NCA Academy (New Careers Academy, Chandigarh — since 1967, 39,000+ selections) prepares technical-entry candidates in two ways:
- Online SSB coaching — live evening batches, psychology tests written and marked daily, mock interviews with retired assessors; ₹7,000. Suited to final-year students and working engineers anywhere in India.
- SSB coaching in Chandigarh — classroom batch at the Mohali campus with GTO tasks on our own ground; ₹12,000 + ₹1,000 registration, hostel available, new batch every Tuesday.
