Is The NDA PAPER/EXAM Tough?
The National Defence Academy (NDA) exam is competitive and can be challenging if you’re not prepared, but it’s not impossible.
Why is UPSC NDA Paper Difficult:
1. Competition: Only a few thousand of the lakhs of applicants make it.
2. Time Management: You have 150 minutes to complete 150 GAT questions and 120 math questions.
3. Negative Marking :Random guessing may result in a negative marking 4.Specifically in GAT (English, GK, History, Polity, Geography, Science, Current Affairs), the syllabus is extensive.
What all comes in this tough NDA Exam?
1. Syllabus is 10+2 level – You’re already ahead if you know the fundamentals.
2. Repeated practice pays off – Solving past year papers and taking regular mock exams are very beneficial.
3.Cutoff is achievable – You can get called for SSB by passing the cutoff, which fluctuates but is typically between 350 and 370 out of 900. You don’t need to receive 90% of the possible points.
Advice: Pay attention on passing the cutoff rather than acing the test. Make Maths and English a priority; they are important and can quickly raise your score.
How many hours of study time is required to pass the NDA paper In one go?
It will take you approximately 4–6 hours a day, split wisely:
Maths – (highest scoring and has a separate paper) takes two hours.
English for 1.5 hours (a crucial component of GAT)
General Science (History, Polity, Geo, Science, Current Affairs) takes 1.5 hours. An additional 30 minutes is optional for review and practice for mock exams.If your fundamentals are solid, you can get by with 3–4 hours per day, concentrating more on:
Mock exams – Papers from prior years Weak areas.If the test is in a month or two, push it .
6–8 hours daily: Every day, complete one complete paper (math + GAT).
Examine your errors.Revision of brief notes and formulas.
Quality is more important than quantity.
How focused you are is more important than how long you study. A three-hour uninterrupted session can yield more results than six hours of mediocre work.
What a 60 day time Table for NDA should look like ?
In order to help you pass the written exam, this 60-day NDA study schedule focuses on developing concepts first, followed by practice and revision.
Daily Study Plan Basic Structure
Phase 1: Weekly plan:
6 days of study plus 1 day of light revision, mock, or rest Total time/day: 6 hours
Day 1–20: Foundation Building Phase 1 *Emphasize learning fundamental ideas and formulas.
Daily Routine : Maths – 2 hours: Study algebra, trigonometry, arithmetic, and geometry – English – 1 hour: vocabulary, grammar, and understanding
General Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (NCERT Class 9–10) – History/Polity/Geography: 1 hour : Begin with NCERT + Lucent GK – Current Affairs: 30 minutes: Read newspapers or one-liners on YouTube – Revision: 30 minutes
Sunday: Review the week and take one quick test covering a single topic.
Phase 2: Speed & Practice
Days 21–40 Begin using your knowledge to answer questions
Daily Routine – GK – 2 hrs: Expand knowledge of History, Polity, and Geography – GAT English – 1.5 hrs : Practice comprehension, synonyms, and error detection – Maths – 2 hrs: Solve PYQs (Previous Year Questions) by topic Current Affairs: 30 minutes – Mock Test: 1 hour every other day
Sunday: Exam-style, full-length GAT or math paper.
Phase 3: Final Push
Day 41–60 Put emphasis on correctness, revision, and test-taking.
Daily Routine – Hour-long Math/GK Error Analysis- Full Mock Test – 3 hours (Maths + GAT alternating days) – Revision – 2 hours (Formulas, vocabulary, and current events)
Current Affairs: 30 minutes – Target Weak Areas: 1 hour
Sunday: Watch inspirational videos and relax or do some light revision.
