What Is AFCAT ?

The Indian Air Force (IAF) uses the AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test), a national competitive test, to hire officers for a number of IAF branches (apart from medical and dental):

Candidates are chosen using AFCAT for:

 1. Piloting Branch Helicopters and Fighter and Transport Pilots.

 2. Engineers in mechanical, electrical, and aeronautical fields on ground duty (technical branch).

 3. Ground Duty (NonTechnical Branch): Meteorology, Education, Accounting, Logistics, and Administration, among other areas.

Exam Frequency: AFCAT 1 (February) & AFCAT 2 (August/September) are administered twice a year.

  Indian nationality

  Maximum Age:

  Branch Flying: 20–24 years

  Years of Ground Duty: 20–26

Qualifications for Education:

  Flying: 12th grade graduation plus math and physics

  Professional: B.E./B.Tech

  Nontechnical: Graduate with at least 60% in any field.

Time frame: two hours  

 One mark is subtracted for each incorrect response in negative marking.

 2. The Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interview, which consists of a personal interview, group activities, and a psychological exam
