What is CPSS (Computerised Pilot Selection System)?
The CPSS is a computer-based selection system developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to assess the flying aptitude of candidates joining the armed forces as pilots. It replaced the earlier PABT (Pilot Aptitude Battery Test) and ensures that only those with the right reflexes, coordination, and multi-tasking ability make it to the cockpit.
It’s conducted during the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) or Service Selection Board (SSB) for flying branch candidates.
Key point: CPSS is a once-in-a-lifetime test — if you fail, you can never reappear for the flying branch again.
Why CPSS Training at New Careers Academy Matters
At NCA, we recognize that CPSS isn’t about theoretical study — it’s about developing the pilot mindset. Our CPSS Training modules replicate the actual DRDO-designed test environment, giving aspirants real exposure before facing the real test.
Here’s why NCA’s CPSS Training stands out:
Cognitive + Psychomotor integration
We train both your mind and body for reflexive coordination
Real Simulator Practice
CPSS simulation labs mirror cockpit controls and reaction interfaces
Mentorship by Ex-Defence Officers
Learn under retired Air Force and Army aviators who’ve faced these assessments
Mock CPSS Trials
Students undergo full-timed mock sessions exactly like AFSB standards
Performance Analysis
Every test result is analyzed and personalized improvement plans are shared
Stress & Focus Training
Neuro-based drills improve concentration under timed pressure
Eligibility for CPSS Training
Before joining our CPSS program, ensure you meet the eligibility for CPSS testing:
Nationality
Indian citizen only
Age Limit
18–24 years (varies by service)
Education
Minimum graduate (for flying branch)
Employment
Civilian or service candidate appearing for AFSB/SSB
Medical Fitness
As per IAF flying standards
Vision
No habitual spectacle use (unless meeting relaxed limits)

CPSS Training Program Structure at NCA
Our CPSS Training Course is carefully divided into three integrated phases that replicate the actual CPSS flow:
Phase 1 – Cognitive & Mental Ability Development
- Reaction-time enhancement drills
- Visual tracking and hand–eye coordination tasks
- Multi-object tracking simulation
- Reasoning and numerical aptitude enhancement
- Short-term memory & focus improvement modules
Phase 2 – Psychomotor & Simulator Practice
- Dedicated cockpit simulation labs (with joystick, pedals & throttle)
- Aircraft instrument interpretation drills
- Multi-task environment control (altitude, heading, and speed coordination)
- Mock time-sharing & reflex tests
- Real-time feedback and instructor observation
Phase 3 – Evaluation & Final CPSS Simulation
- Two complete mock CPSS tests under real exam conditions
- Detailed feedback reports and improvement mapping
- Personality and stress handling coaching
- Counselling for next steps (medical, interview readiness)
Detailed CPSS Syllabus Covered in Training
Though CPSS doesn’t have a “written syllabus,” our training comprehensively covers all the underlying skills you’ll be tested on:
Cognitive Tests
Information processing, reasoning, reaction speed, multitasking
Psychomotor Tests
Simulator control, joystick handling, time-sharing, spatial orientation
Instrument Reading
Altimeter, airspeed indicator, artificial horizon, heading indicator
Memory & Coordination
Pattern recognition, number recall, visual reaction
Stress Management
Breathing, focus, and mental relaxation techniques
Mock CPSS Simulation
Full-length timed simulation identical to DRDO model
Our mock system replicates the same test logic used in actual CPSS centers like AFSB Mysore and Varanasi.
Facilities & Infrastructure for CPSS Training
At New Careers Academy, we’ve recreated a mini flight simulation environment to match the CPSS labs. Facilities include:
High-speed computer systems with joystick interface
180° panoramic display cockpit
Visual & auditory response trackers
Reaction-time recording software
Mock CPSS environment built on aviation psychometric principles
Dedicated mentoring by Ex-IAF pilots and SSB psychologists
