CDS Coaching details and eligibility Criteria:

CDS stands for Combined Defence Services, basically four categories are there under this test which is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) twice in a year. The tentative dates of notification fall in the month of August and March, whereas the dates for exam is usually falls in the month of February and August. There is certain eligibility criteria’s for filling vacancies under various categories and the categories are:

  • Indian Military Academy
  • Indian Naval Academy
  • Air Force Academy
  • Officer Training Academy

Different eligibility Criteria’s are there for the entire four categories. Male Candidate can apply on all the four different categories whereas female can apply only in the last category that is officer training academy. The eligibility criteria are mentioned below concerned with age, educational qualification and syllabus which is as follows:

  • Educational Qualification:
  • For IMA and OTA: Must possess degree from a recognized university or equivalent to the degree.
  • For Air Force Academy: Must have Bachelor of Engineering degree or shall have degree from recognized university with physics or Mathematics at 10+2 level.
  • For Indian Naval Academy: Must have degree in bachelor of engineering from a recognized university or institution.
  • Also, those students can apply for these posts that are in final year of graduation and still have to pass out with their degrees.
  • Age Details:
  • For Indian Military Academy: 19 to 24 years
  • For Naval Academy: 19 to 22 years
  • For Air Force Academy: 19 to 23 years
  • For Officer’s training Academy: 19 to 25 years
  • Scheme for Examination:
  • For Indian Military Academy: Subjects that are included in exam course are mentioned below:
  • English : 100 Marks
  • General Knowledge: 100 Marks
  • Elementary Mathematics: 100 Mark
  • Total: 300 Marks
  • For Officer’s Training Academy: Subjects included in the course of exam are mentioned below:
  • English : 100 Marks
  • General Knowledge: 100 Marks
  • Total: 200 Marks
  • Points to note:
  • The main point to note is that the IMA, AFA and NA, permanent commission is attained but in OTA it is Short Service Commission.
  • In CDS, male candidate can apply for all the four categories but in this case unmarried male candidates can apply for all four and married can apply only for OTA. Female Candidates can only apply for OTA.
  • Candidate must be physically fit according to the standard criteria of defence services for technical and non- technical grade.
  • Nationality:

A Candidate must be either:

A citizen of India, Nepal or Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee who came in India with the intention of settling permanently before 1st January, 1962.
