Qualifications for Students in Their Final Year For AFCAT

1. You have to be in your degree program’s last year or semester.

2. Before the date set by the Indian Air Force, which is typically prior to the start of training at the Air Force Academy, you should be able to provide documentation that you passed the degree exam, such as your final grade sheet.

3. You must meet the topic criteria and have earned at least 60% of your possible points up until your final semester.

Flying Branch: Must have earned at least 60% in math and physics at the 10+2 level. 

Technical Branch: Final-year B.E. or B.Tech students must have 60% of the possible points.

Ground Duty NonTechnical: Any 60% graduate stream.

Training for AFCAT 2 2025 might start in July 2026, therefore you need to finish and record your degree before then.

When it comes to the AFSB interview, final-year students must not have any backlogs.

You will be given permission to take the written test and SSB, but ultimate selection will depend on your degree completion documentation.

AFCAT EXAMINATION AND SELECTION STEPS

First Stage: Written AFCAT Exam

For all candidates, this is the initial screening phase.

Topics Covered: English Numerical Ability and General Awareness

Critical Thinking and Military Proficiency

Candidates for technical branches also take the Engineering Knowledge Test, or EKT.

Phase 2: Air Force Selection Board Interview

Only those who pass the written test are invited to the five-day AFSB interview:

Screening (OIR + PPDT) Day 1

Officer Intelligence Rating, or OIR Test

Image Perception and Discussion Test, or PPDT

Only select applicants advance to Stage II.

Psychology Tests on Day 2

Thematic Apperception Test, or TAT

Word Association Test, or WAT

Situation Reaction Test, or SRT

Self-Description Test, or SD

Day 3–4: Personal Interview & GTO Tasks

GTO Tasks: Command tasks, outdoor obstacle challenges, and group discussions

Personal Interview: Evaluating OLQs, knowledge, and personality

Day 5: Board officers’ final review of the conference and the announcement of recommendations.

Step 3: Health Assessment

conducted in Air Force hospitals exclusively for recommended candidates.

The aviation and ground duty branches have different medical requirements.

Step 4: Joining & Merit List

The final merit list is determined by adding the medicals, AFSB performance, and AFCAT score.

Candidates are invited to train at Dundigal’s Air Force Academy.
